On Saturday, during our visit to the cattery, btmao assisted Foster Mum with hosting a couple who wanted to adopt.
They had mentioned checking the Cat Welfare Adoption Board, and finding links to blogs like tec. They also told btmao they’re feeding cats in their neighbourhood, but “can’t afford to sterilise”. btmao in turn spoke to them about the problems with just feeding and advised
So I’m writing this in the hope that others like them do read and consider:
- feeding in itself may cause more problems for the cats
- sterilisation of stray cats is more important than just feeding them
- sterilisation in itself is still not enough safeguard for the cats, but it goes some way in mitigating potential problems. So if it is acceptable that merely sterilising is not foolproof to you, please by all means, sterilise!
- if you really want to keep a particular cat colony safe, then sterilisation is just part of the job – you have to MANAGE it too. That’s what TNRM is about.
