Say NO to drilling in polar bear habitat!

Remember the bears and their unbearable future?

Oil-drilling in the Artic Sea, where they make their home and find their food, is another potential nail in the coffin. And it will likely commence before the decision to list Polar Bears as endangered is officially made (they’ve been listed as threatened since late 2006, as a prelude to the listing decision). The rub is, drilling will start MERE DAYS before the decision. What bears need is a timeout.

And you can help! Not much is needed, just a few taps and clicks on your keyboard and mouse. If you think about it, it’s not just for the bears, it’s for us too.

The future of polar bears is shaky enough as it is – let’s not add drilling to that equation.

There are so many things wrong with this proposal. Please act now to save polar bears!

Hi friend,

There has been much talk recently about the fate of polar bears. It’s a frightening thought, and we have a lot of work to do to save them.

Therefore, now is not the time to open up their habitat to oil drilling!

Tell Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne NOT to open polar bear habitat to drilling!

There are so many things wrong with this proposal. Polar bear mothers may abandon their young or flee to dangerous, unknown territory when they are frightened by the sound of oil drills. Not to mention the potential of an oil spill or pollution in general.

This also comes at a time when we need to be thinking seriously about our energy habits and finding alternatives to oil. Feeding our current gluttonous energy habits is not worth losing these beautiful animals.

Add your voice to this important issue today. Tell Interior Secretary Kempthorne that oil drilling in polar bear habitat is a terrible idea.

Thank you for your work to protect polar bears,

Care2 and
