Young adult ticked tabby male with mittens. First sighted: late Nov 07. Hangs out at buffer zone between Area1 and Area2. Sterilised 30 Dec 07, sent into foster care to await adoption. Adopted late Jul. Fetched home on 30 Aug 2008.

Freddy home-free since 30 Aug 2008

Freddy‘s new family identified him as the one in late july, but due to scheduling conflicts, was not able to bring him home until late August.

On 30 Aug, I wasn’t there to say good bye to him, but btmao got a last cuddle with him. He seemed to know something’s up.

The next day, his new mum, P, called me, sounding very concerned that he has not used the toilet. She had opted not to use pine, which was what is used at the cattery, and had bought recycled paper pellets as her daughter has sensitive noses like us. She was getting ready to go out and get some pine, as she suspected he may not like the recycled paper pelltes. So I reassured her that it is not unusual for cats to take a while to get their biological rhythm back in step when in a new environment. However, I advised her to just watch him, and while it may be difficult ot differentiate between a cat trying to adapt to a new environment and a cat in a new environment from distress due to other more ominous reasons, a few simple signs would clue her in, namely:

  • he is eating well
  • he is not crying loudly
  • rather than hiding himself away, he was in fact exploring the house and mingling with the family already

Following our conversation, this is the email I received from P the next day:

… thanks for the reassurance – it saved me $20+ on a bag of pine litter. This morning, when I walked into the study I was greeted with the aroma of cat pooh – Freddy had apparently used his box sometime between midnight last night and 7 am this morning. So hopefully he sticks to the idea. He wandered aronund the house yesterday – very inquisitive, but retreated to the study again about 20 minutes later. He showed a huge interest in the beds so I kept the bedroom doors shut and gave him a bath this morning so even if he decides to sample the beds he’ll at least be decently clean.

He plays a lot, but he’s quietened down now – isn’t in a perpetual frenzy. He was really a livewire on Saturday.

I have to run now. Will report again soon…. And thanks from all of us – Freddy is so great!

On 9 Sep, came this update:

Freddy’s definitely at home now – roaming very freely and asserting his preference for the kitchen counter vs the floor. He’s using his litter-box regularly and being very good about that aspect of his daily activities. He’s not keen at all on the Natural Balance food but I am persevering. I have come to the conclusion that, unknown to us, he has taken some degree in geometry. He singles out the triangular kibble (calsifer’s note: the kibble he was fed in the cattery) almost perfectly from the circular ones (Nat Balance). So many stories to tell you….

We have yet to visit, obviously. We hope to rectify the situation soon.

Cattery2: Ticked Tabbies, 13 Jul 08

More kitties of the cattery on Sun, 13 Jul. This time, all agouti tabbies and roomies.

Freddy left, Boston (again) right

Apple Pie left, (and yes) Boston right

Beside a knack for photo-moments, Boston seems to be Mr Congeniality, getting the kitty version of buddy hi-fives on with the big Apple and (bigger than him) Freddy. But a closer look at his posture shows that he’s a bit subordinate/wary of the close contact. Why then did he place himself into such a situation? Well, Boston’s quite an active energetic young male and has aspirations up the hierarchy, and so he likes to be in the same space as the two big boys. But he hasn’t been able to overcome the sheer force of Apple nor power himself past Freddy, and it’s been stalemate central for quite a while.

Boston used to get on Frankie‘s nerves too (Frankie used to hold regular staredowns with Apple initially but since they signed gentleman accords some months back, both studiously avoid being near each other’s tails).

Boston has since wised up and takes care to leave Mr ARF Cat alone. But he does have at least one success under his paw: he is an avid and accomplished Freda stalker-bully.

Freddy, 13 Jul 08

Freddy, tec homeseeker. He’s still waiting for a home.

He loves being carried

Then he’ll start headbutting and kissing

Homeseeker: Freddy

EDIT: Freddy has been adopted since 30 Aug 2008.

I’m Freddy! Just like Mr Mercury sings it, I go “radio ga-ga, radio goo-goo” over people and I want someone who does the same for me. I wear a agouti tabby tuxedo coat, with a long tail to match.
(taken 13 Jul)

I am 1 to 2 years and still growing, sterilised and litter-box trained. I love people so much that I prefer to be a single cat. If you already have another cat, I can live with a housemate too, but I will need more of your patience and understanding to settle down.

Vid: Freddy affectionate

Vid: Freddy pacing (hear his gentle voice amidst the pattering rain)

Vid: Freddy playful

Freddy in foster care

Change of plans for Freddy. He has been sterilised. However, he will not be returning to Area 1 as a clannie. Due to his super-friendly, trusting and affectionate nature, we will be rehoming him instead.

He’s still in recovery, so we will give him a bit more time to settle down before we begin his adoption run. (Update: his adoption notice here)

Freddy, nose kissing purr machine

This morning, before we escort the new conscript for his pre-mojo-rob in-camp program, the HQ personnel could not resist one good look at the boy.

Ragdoll. Completely boneless, and purring at 100%

He’s still as fearless, or probably clueless, about his situation. Still as trusting and affectionate, he tried to climb on everybody’s laps and get his nose kisses, in between of threading between legs and rubbing his furry flanks against everything. In short, he’s shameless.

Ragdoll grows spine, just to try for a kiss

And of course, given how unaffected he is by the environment change and how utterly unself-conscious he is about begging for affectionate, we can deduce that he is, or once was, a pet cat.

Chloe is actually a Freddy

Earlier this evening, we came home by way of Chloe’s spot.

She wasn’t there, but instead we saw her on Ian’s, or rather Isam‘s perch.

Again, with this family’s penchant for luring good-looking cats to their door, we were not surprised. the famil was not home however, and nor one of the resident cats were around. We called to her, and surprising us out of our sandals, she immediately jumped out of the shoe rack and trotted towards us. She was extremely friendly and responsive. We decude that this msut be the usual tmie she got fed by the family, and being deprived of her usual meal, she’s hungry and willing to be friends.

We got her to follow us behind the family’s unit for a good look. It turns out that she has balls… so now she is Freddy.

Floored by the revelation

A very handsome agouti tabby tuxedo, he has a perfect lnog tail. He looks to about 1 year old. He also has a very soft sweet voice.

Freddy is also extremely friendly and trusting. Even though he’s not a girl, we still feel that he ought to be relieved of his mojo – our operation treats all cats the same way. But this being the weekend, and Monday New Year’s Eve, it would be difficult to book him an appointment with any vet. But given that it was a rare chance to see him outside the school premises, and being so responsive, we did not want to miss the chance.

So we called Foster Mum to see if she’s able to pull some strings. But, too bad, she could not. However, she would be able to house him temporarily until arrangements could be made for him, which ough to be very soon. Grateful and relieved, we hung up and plotted his kitnapping, which turned out to be a non-event.

While btmao went home to get a carrier, I lured him to the void deck at our block to facilitate the necessary. He followed willingly, even though all I did was clicked at him, as we did not have any kitty treats on us.

I could handle him easily, and he was putty in my hands.

When btmao came down with the carrier, he got slightly spooked at the sight of the carrier – it was something obviously alien to him.

But then he quickly resume his trust, and with a slight push, he entered the carrier and did not struggle at all. Even when we got him home, all he did was sit in the carrier obediently.

We tried to give him some water. He came out of the carrier readily but instead of drinking, he was curious about the new situation he was in. He was fearless, did not slink though his hindquarters were set a little low. It was again a simple matter to turn him around and nudge back into the carrier.

Tomorrow, we will send him over to Foster Mum’s.

However, finally getting him now still leaves questions: the kitty btmao saw Ivan chase off was a girl and wearing a collar, and she resembles Freddy a lot, who is she?
